Fourth Dot is the social-impact production and training initiative under Arat Netib, created to help women build practical skills, earn sustainable incomes, and shape more independent futures through craftsmanship.
Based in Ethiopia, the initiative focuses particularly on women affected by conflict, displacement, and unsafe or unstable living conditions. Its mission includes supporting women from Ethiopia and other parts of Africa who face barriers to education, employment, and economic security.
Fourth Dot already brings together skilled women and men, including artisans, welders, and craftspeople actively engaged in production. Alongside their work, these experienced makers are currently mentoring and training a small number of women, helping them develop practical skills, confidence, and the ability to take on production responsibilities.
Building on this foundation, Fourth Dot’s planned 12-month program aims to support approximately 100 adult women each year through hands-on training in leatherwork, furniture making, finishing, quality control, and safe tool use. Participants will also learn costing and market readiness, connecting their craft skills to opportunities for paid production, employment, or small-business development. The program is designed to include meals, local transport assistance, protective equipment, and learning materials to make participation more accessible.
Fourth Dot’s long-term ambition extends beyond training and production. As the initiative grows, it aims to develop broader livelihood support and, eventually, access to safe housing, helping women establish a stable foundation from which to rebuild their lives, support their families, and pursue lasting independence.
TEKESTE provides a product and market-facing expression for this work, bringing considered pieces to an international audience.
Cutting, stitching, frame fabrication, assembly and finishing each contribute to the final piece. The approach connects design intent with practical production skills and attention to the finished object.
